Drawing the Hollow Chapel

A walk past a ruined church became three weeks of cross-hatching. I had not meant to draw it at all — but a crooked spire against a bruised sky is not the sort of thing you can walk away from.

On crookedness

A straight spire is architecture. A crooked one is a story — it has weathered something. I leaned mine a degree further than the photograph, and the whole drawing came alive.

The trees did the rest. Bare branches are just ink looking for an excuse.
